Dr. Brett McGettigan is a dedicated physician-scientist with expertise in gastroenterology and hepatology. Currently a fellow at the Mayo Clinic under the NIH Research Track (T32), his clinical and research interests center on alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD), metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), and immune dysregulation in advanced liver disease.
Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Dr. McGettigan completed his residency at LA County + USC Medical Center. He earned his MD and PhD in Immunology through the prestigious Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. His research explores the intersection of immunology and liver disease, with postdoctoral work at USC Keck School of Medicine and Mayo Clinic.
Dr. McGettigan has been widely published in top-tier journals, including Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and The Journal of Hepatology. He frequently presents his research at major national conferences such as Digestive Disease Week (DDW) and the AASLD Liver Meeting. Beyond his research and clinical practice, he is committed to mentoring future physician-scientists, serving on MSTP admissions committees and tutoring medical and graduate students.
Fluent in English, Italian, and Spanish, Dr. McGettigan remains active in professional organizations, including the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE).
